Telephone System
Calling the Library?

Pierce County Library System launched a new telephone system, to update its old phone systems, which were falling apart. You get:

The old phone numbers will continue to work for as long as they are needed.
Advantages to new phone system
- Faster service - When you call a library you can learn about open hours, events and more, or talk directly with a person during open hours.
- Better service - The new phone system stops or reduces the number of dropped or missed calls, compared with the old phones. It offers mobile capabilities, so that you can get information more quickly. Staff can help you on the phone while browsing shelves rather than placing you on hold, walking to the shelf, looking for the information, returning to the desk and talking to you.
- Easier service - You can ask staff to transfer your call among all buildings, rather than gettting the phone number and having to hang up and make another call.
Why new phones?
The Library System made the change to improve service from its 25-year old phone systems, which were antiquated and falling apart. The systems were well past their life expectancy and the primary phone system, SRX Telephone System provided by Universal Telecom, Inc. no longer has replacement parts made for it.
How did the Library decide?
To inform recommendations for the telephone system, the Library conducted market research. With an analysis of public use and interests for phone service, the Library System researched telephone systems.
The Library selected a Mitel System, provided by Tri-Tec Service.
