Steilacoom resident and Library Foundation donor, Ham Rideout passed away in November. Ham was a well-loved part of the Pierce County Library Foundation family, establishing an endowment for his daughter who tragically died in 1985. Years after her passing, Ham was looking for a way to honor Danae's memory. Ham discovered Steilacoom Pierce County Library and it became his cause. Ham made an initial gift to begin the Danae Rideout Endowment in 1994. The Endowment provides annual funding for a series of programs at Steilacoom Library and The Danae Rideout Children's Corner at Steilacoom Library carries her name. Ham was always looking for a way to raise funds to grow the endowment - he saved his change in a jar and donated it. He sold note cards with art created by Danae and gave the proceeds, and finally with his passing in November, his family asked that memorial gifts be made to the Endowment.
