Volunteer choices
Choose from one of the many volunteer opportunities at Pierce County Library System.
Audio Visual Materials Maintenance Assistant
Purpose: To assist in maintenance of assorted audio visual materials.
Clerical Support Assistant
Purpose: To assist library or department staff with clerical needs.
Communications Intern
Purpose: To provide communications services and clerical support to the Pierce County Library System’s Communications Department.
ESL Services (English As A Second Language)
Purpose: To provide structured time slots for immigrants and refugees from foreign countries, with opportunities to practice conversational English., and enable participants to feel comfortable speaking English by creating a nonjudgmental and supportive environment.
Homebound/Community Outreach Services Assistant
Purpose: Delivery driver providing delivery service of library materials to our homebound library customers.

Housekeeping Assistant/Branch Services
Purpose: General light housekeeping
Human Rescources Support Volunteer
Purpose: To assist HR Assistant and department staff with clerical needs. Volunteer will be required to sign confidentiality agreement.
Internet/Catalog Tutor (for online automated systems)
Purpose: To provide instruction for the public in the basic use of Internet and in the use of the library's online catalog. In this position, the volunteer teaches basic computer skills to adult learners, including how to navigate the Web and use a Web-based e-mail account, assisting students one-on-one or in small groups.
Landscape Gardener Aide (Grounds Maintenance)
Purpose: To keep the outside building grounds neat and orderly and the live plants inside watered and trimmed.
Learning Disabled Student Volunteer as Library Assistant
Purpose: To establish work experience and life skills within the library environment and to assist library staff as necessary within program gudelines. May be accompanied on site by school or program staff person.
Library Docent
Purpose: To assist library patrons in understanding of the Library layout, services, materials and equipment (i.e. Internet help), both in person and on the phone.
Materials Maintenance Assistant
Purpose: To assist in maintaining the good physical condition of assorted library materials, to include cleaning and repair of both print and nonprint materials.
Movers and Packers
Purpose: To assist Pierce County Libraries with moving library and Processing and Administrative Center materials, furniture and equipment.
Photographer
Purpose: To capture an image that leaves a lasting memory or impression of the services of Pierce County Library System and images of people using those services.
Program Assistant
Purpose: To assist library staff in arranging for and effectively publicizing a variety of adult programs.
Research Assistant
Purpose: To assist in organization and maintenance of assorted printed materials.
Youth Services Assistant
Purpose: To assist Youth and Children's Services staff with room setups by arranging furniture, materials, name tags, etc., and to help clean up the meeting room or activity area when the program has concluded.
