Welcome once again to One-Shots, where we think Kevin Smith routinely taps into genius by managing to make movies that make lots of money on a faily low budget.
There's a fine art to making a movie. Some things you can just throw enough money for the effects at, others require finesse, good camerawork, and praying the actors get it right in one take, because there's only enough film/battery life for one take.
Most of the time, though, summer is all about the blockbuster, often an effects-drenched movie, usually an action piece, that cost a lot to make and is expected to make a lot more. A lot of the movies we're seeing on the screen, though, have their origins in print and in books. So for this week's recommendations, we'll peer in at some books that have inspired some pretty successful movies.

Harry Potter: The boy who should have died is still alive. The Dark Lord who should have died when his own spell reflected is still alive. But you know what they say: If at first you don't succeed...

Captain America: Steve Rogers, supersoldier experiment gone right, just in time to combat the growing danger to America from her enemies! For truth, justice...and that someone else's catchphrase.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: Girl in blue follows white rabbit to court of red queen, after dealing with size issues involving hats and...other things, and it only gets weirder from there. If you want a slightly more epic feel to it, check out The Looking Glass Wars.
There's also a TV series simply called Alice if you like your protagonist as a black belt in judo instead of a girl falling down a rabbit hole...

Scott Pilgrim versus... seven evil exes... for the chance to date Ramona Flowers! Complete with over-the-top battles and...coins. *re-checks review* Yep. Coins. *shrug*
That's all of the summer movies stuff we have this week. As always, drop us a line if there's something that you'd like to see reviewed, if you think we're doing a great job, or if you think you can do better and provide your own stuff.
