Phew! I’m tired! I’m sure Jami is too. We’ve just returned from our trek around the county. Well nobody got diphtheria and no one’s wagon axle broke, but it was tiring nonetheless! (Does anyone get that reference or am I just showing how old I am…Go Oregon Trail!)
With the help of Adam, Catherine, Holly, Jane M., Kris, Meredith, Sheri and Teri…Jami and I piled everyone into a covered wagon (or the modern alternative…the station wagon) and we trekked around the county teaching teens about the wonders of the library.
Adam, Jane and Teri told us all about the wonderful databases that could be found at the library. Did you know there are TONS of databases that you can use at home or in the library? Hmmm…I wonder why those would be useful. Well, I know that I do most of my homework at the last minute. If you’re doing a report last minute you can get real print sources for all your reports. Don’t even get Adam started on why they are so much better than Google…he could just go on for hours. I’ll just say this…databases are like an encyclopedia that searches for whatever you want!! It’s so easy!! Ask any reference librarian at any branch and they will be able to help you!
Holly, Kris and Sheri showed us all about Online Live Homework Help. If I had had this in school I would have been so much smarter!! This is a free service that you can log on and get a free tutor to help you with your homework problems! They connect you to a real live tutor via chat…just like Yahoo IM or AIM.
Catherine and Meredith talked about all the wonderful things you can get at the library. Catherine was particularly infatuated with our Folk Music collection. They also handed out library cards to literally thousands of students! Don’t have one? It’s not too late; you can either do it online or come into the branch and get it right then!
Jami and I got to talk about some really great books. It was really great for us to get to meet all these really awesome teens too! Jami and I can talk about books all day long…and lots of other stuff too…so come in and visit us. Jami is out at the South Hill Branch and I’m over in the West at the Lakewood Branch.
Anyways…we’ve almost made it to the end of our journey. So far (knock on wood) we haven’t lost a single member of our party to dysentery or a snake bite even when we had to float the wagon across to Gig Harbor (what can I say there was tons of traffic on the bridge). If you haven’t seen us at your school then come in and see us at the library we’d love to help!
