With a Pierce County Library card people get an array of free services, including:
Why is the Library having the card design contest?
- You may get a free Pierce County Library System card any time and open your world to information and imagination and change your life.
- Check out the Library's current card selections. As an added option, the Library would like to offer a library card designed by teens. Teenagers and people of all ages will be able to get the new card.
- Last year the Library issued more than 50,000 cards. Those included cards to new customers, as well as to people who lost their cards.
- You have the opportunity to design the artwork that will be used on the new library card.

How do I enter the contest?
- Pick up an entry form at any Pierce County Library, or download the form (PDF 309kb) from the Library's Web site.
- Enter your artwork at one of Pierce County Library's 17 locations or mail to Teen Library Card Contest, Pierce County Library, 3005 112th St. E., Tacoma, WA 98446-2215.
- Submit your entry between Wednesday, April 15 and Friday, May 15, 2009.
How will the winner be chosen?

- Professional artists will look at all the entries and choose the top artwork to be posted on the Library's Web site for online voting.
- You and others may help select the winner from the finalists by voting online at the Library's Web site between Tuesday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 30.
- Winner will be announced later this summer.

What is the prize for the winner?
- The winning artwork will be printed on library cards, along with the artist's name.
- Winner’s name may appear in newspapers, on the Library’s Web site and in other communications.
- You will be able to get a free teen-designed library card during the Library's third annual card drive this October.
Contest guidelines

- Any teenager in grades 7 – 12 living or attending school in Pierce County is eligible to enter.
- Entering the contest is free.
- One entry per person.
- Entries are due by May 15, 2009.
- Artwork may be turned in at any Pierce County Library or mailed to Teen Library Card Contest, Pierce County Library, 3005 112th St. E., Tacoma, WA 98445-2215.
- Art must be original and not published elsewhere.
- Submitted art becomes property of Pierce County Library. The Library will retain all submissions.
- Professional artists will review entries and select finalists.
- The public will select the winner from the finalists via an online vote.
- Library staff may modify the artwork to meet print requirements.
- Artist’s name will appear on printed cards.
- Winner’s name may appear in newspapers, on the Library’s Web site and in other communications.
