The first Pierce County READS was an absolute triumph, and its success assures that it will happen again next year. This first countywide community one-book program met and exceeded the organizers’ expectations.
People throughout the county embraced the program and participated. Thousands of people were all reading, talking about and sharing the same book at the same time.
During the three month program, running February through April, people checked out 8,000 books and audiobooks from “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” series at Pierce County Libraries. Also, more than 1,100 people participated in programs.
A total of 1,600 people enjoyed a free presentation and book signing by Alexander McCall Smith. See photos>> Thank you to Key Foundation, a foundation funded by KeyBank, sponsored Pierce County READS, and to the other generous sponsors and community partners. Soon, Pierce County Library will announce the Pierce County READS book for 2009. |
