A total of 1,600 people met author Alexander McCall Smith

Pierce County READS 2008 culminated on Saturday evening, April 26, with a free author event at Pacific Lutheran University, with this year’s selected author, international award-winning Alexander McCall Smith. He delighted and engaged 1,600 people at the event. He also signed books from “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency,” as well as other books he has written, for 400 people for nearly two hours. McCall Smith’s books have won numerous awards, and have been translated into 39 languages, while selling more than 14 million copies worldwide.
People from throughout the Pacific Northwest attended the author event. The Library’s goal was for 800 people to attend the author event, and is ecstatic that it doubled its goal. See photos>> |
King’s Books, a Pierce County READS community partner, sold books at the author event. 10% of the proceeds were donated to Pierce County Library Foundation.
