Printed music collection & the Printed Sheet Music Index
Looking for a song? The Library's offers a large number of songbooks.
Included are popular sing-along songbooks, adapted melodies for 'faking it' on piano or guitar, musical show tunes, hits of specific performers or composers, wedding favorites and classical scores for instruments.
Finding Printed Music in the catalog
In our catalog, music in printed format can be found by using the Limit by: option set to Printed Music.
This Limit By option will be displayed when you are in Keyword, Phrase and Advanced searches, or if you click the More Options from the catalog's home page. Combine the format limit option Printed Music with search words for the composer, performer or theme of your choice (such as wedding).
Song title words could also be used within the Keyword search, but not all of our cataloged printed music have their songs listed in the catalog's record. This is especially true for the older items, very large anthologies or for songs within Sheet Music Magazine. To help with the problem of finding specific songs, library staff developed the Printed Sheet Music Index.
Using Printed Sheet Music Index to find specific songs
For years, when a songbook or printed music item was added to the library, staff added the table of contents of songs of the book to our Printed Sheet Music Index. It now contains over 28,000 song titles, corresponding with our sheet music.
To use this online index, simply type main word(s) of your song title into the search form. You will find a list of related songs along with the books that contain the music for those songs. Each book title will link directly to that item in the catalog.
There is also a TOC link for each book, leading to a Table of Contents (TOC) listing of the book, so that you can see which the other songs are included..
Printed Sheet Music Index is a great resource when you are trying to find particular songs to sing or play!
