Renewing Materials

Renew By Phone telephone number: 253-548-3344 or 800-346-0995.

You will need:

• Library card number/username.
• PIN/password.
• Barcode numbers of the items you wish to renew. See sticker labeled Pierce County Library on back cover of book or case, or on first disk.

Hours of operation: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Access your account online via the catalog and renew items in the Items Out section of your account.

Sign up for renewals by text notices.

You will receive a text message when items you have checked out are due to be renewed. Reply to those messages to renew your items.

You will need:

• A phone that can send a text message to an email address.
• Subscription to text messaging with your wireless carrier. This service is free from the Library. Standard text rates apply.

Using a checkout computer at your library, check out the item again with the same card. A staff member can also renew the item for you.

Renew Interlibrary Loan items, those borrowed for you from other library systems across the country, by contacting your library or e-mailing ill@piercecountylibrary.org. In your message, please include your library card number and the title of the book.

You may not renew these items with the automated renewal by phone service or with your online account.

How many times can an item be renewed?

After library items have been checked out on your card, in most cases they can be renewed for an additional loan period, up to 3 times before the item will need to be returned.

Are there items that I can't renew?

You won't be able to renew items that have a wait list. If other people have requested the item you have, the computer system will block you from renewing it. You will need to return the item by its existing due date to avoid fines.

How do I renew downloadable e-books and audiobooks?

If the three-week license for your downloaded e-book or audiobook has expired, you may return to the appropriate downloadables page to download another copy of the three-week license, thus 'renewing' your item.

If an item is already overdue when you attempt to renew it, any late fines accrued at that point in time will still apply.
