Request an Item from the Library Catalog
You may request, or place a hold on, books, movies and music offered by Pierce County Library in the library catalog. The Library will send the item to the Pierce County Library of your choice. Follow the steps below to have your materials sent to you.
Search for Your Item
- Click Library Catalog at the top of this page.
- Search the catalog for the item you would like to request.
- Click Place Request.
Log in to Your Library Account
The log-in form appears.
- Type your barcode number (library account number on the back of your library card) and password/PIN in the appropriate boxes.
- Click Log In.
Choose Pickup Library and Date
The request form appears.
- Select, from the Pickup Library list, the name of the library where you want to pick up the requested item.
- If you want your request to be active immediately, leave today's date in the Activation Date box.
- If you want to activate your request at a future time, type the date in the Activation Date box in the format mm/dd/year (for example, 03/07/2012 for March 7, 2012).
Submit Your Request
- Click Submit Request.
- If other requests are active for the same title, the library may display a message that tells you how many requests have been placed before yours. You can choose to continue or cancel the request. If you click Continue, a message informs you that your request has been placed.
Search for Another Title
- Click Return to search results to display your search results again.
- Repeat the above steps to request another item.
Important:
Protect your privacy. If you see your name and a Log Out link at the top of the page, you are logged in. Be sure to click Log Out before you leave the computer.
How to Cancel a Hold
If you decide you do not want the item you requested., you may cancel the hold online.
- Log in to your account.
- Select the Requests tab.
- In the list of your requests, check the box to the left of the hold you want to cancel.
- Click Cancel Selected at the bottom of the page.
If the hold does not display a box to the left, see the status column. If the status is Held, the item is waiting for you. Contact your library to cancel your hold.
How to Suspend/Reactivate a Hold
If you would like to keep your request, but delay the time you receive the item, such as when you are going out of town or want to get a series in order:
- Log in to your account.
- Select the Requests tab.
- In the list of your requests, check the box to the left of the hold(s) you want to suspend or reactivate.
- Click Suspend/Reactivate Selected at the bottom of the page.
- Enter the new activation date in the box at the top of the page.
