Getting a laptop
Laptops may be checked out from the Help Desk at Bonney Lake, Fife, Gig Harbor, Graham, Key Center, Lakewood, Parkland/Spanaway, South Hill, Summit, Sumner, Tillicum, and University Place.
Check with Help Desk staff to see if a laptop is available. Laptops are checked out just like books, but they have a few different conditions around their use:
- Laptops are for in-library use only.
- They may be borrowed for any amount of time within the day.
- Internet access on laptops is filtered only. Unfiltered internet access is available on our desktop computers.
Laptop Hardware
- The battery should last through your use, but power cords are available for check-out.
- Closing the lid puts the laptop to sleep. It does not shut down the laptop.
- The laptop speakers are disabled. Audio is available via the headphone port (you can request headphones from the Help Desk as well).
- External CD/DVD RW drives are available for check-out.
Laptop Software
- These laptops are using Windows 10. For help with using Windows 10, visit Getting Started with Windows 10 from GCFLearnFree.
- Download and install any apps you'd like during your session. Customer apps and data are removed from the laptop automatically when the laptop is shut down.
- The laptop may be shut down from the Start menu or by holding the power button down for five seconds.
Pre-Installed Apps
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Access)
- Acrobat Reader DC
- Lego Mindstorms
- Minecraft
- iTunes
- Skype
- VLC
- GMetrix
